DONOR NAMING
OPPORTUNITIES

As part of our scholarship award process, the Foundation would be pleased to collaborate with individual, group, or corporate donors to create named scholarships through the creation of endowed gifts to the Foundation.  Such gifts, what we call Endowed Funds, would be professionally managed and invested as part of the Foundation endowment with the Foundation’s investment manager, Bath Savings Trust.  The income from such Endowed Funds would be used to fund annual scholarships of $5,000 to students selected according to the Foundation’s criteria.  The Foundation would also be pleased to have such donors participate in the awardee selection process using the award criteria established by the Foundation and as set forth in its website.

The Foundation’s current spending plan calls for expenditures of 4% per year from the Endowment to fund scholarships.  Since the Foundation only makes awards of $5,000 per year and only does so out of Foundation earnings at the foregoing expenditure rate, the Foundation has established a minimum necessary contribution of either $125,000 for a full scholarship or $62,500 for a half, or shared, scholarship.  Gifts to the Foundation is these amounts would be accepted either as a lump sum or as a five-year pledge.  And donors may if they wish name the scholarship in honor of a third party.

Each Endowed Fund is provided with a page on the FHSSF website containing a narrative about an honored individual or group, the purpose of the fund, and appropriate photographs and images. These narratives and photographs serve as an ongoing, tangible honor to the subject of the named fund or award. They also provide a place for scholarship recipients to learn about the story behind their particular scholarship award.

The naming program operates as follows:

$125,000

A gift in this amount would entitle the donor to create a full four-year scholarship in the name of a designated individual.  The scholarship award would be announced annually at the Freeport High School Awards night, in accompanying press releases, and on the Foundation website. The announcement would state:

  • Year one- Make the following announcement: [The named donor], who is part of the Freeport High School Scholarship Foundation, is pleased to award a scholarship [Optional: in honor of] of $5,000  per year for 4 years to Mary Smith.

  • Years 2-4- Make the following announcement each year: [The named donor], who is part of the Freeport High School Scholarship Foundation, is pleased to make a continuing award [Optional: in honor of] of $5,000 to Mary Smith, which is the second [or third or fourth] year of its four-year award, to Mary Smith.

  • Year 5- Repeat the award as in Year One but to a new student.

  • Year 6-8 – Repeat Year 2-4

$62,500

A gift in this amount would entitle the donor to create a shared four-year scholarship in the name of a designated individual.  The scholarship award would be announced annually at the Freeport High School Awards night, in accompanying press releases, and on the Foundation website. The announcement would state:

  • Year 1- Make the following announcement:
