"Since winning the scholarship from the Freeport High School Scholarship Foundation as a junior at Freeport High School I have been given amazing opportunities that have helped me make my final college decision, to attend the Ohio State University nursing program.. I was fortunate enough to be granted this scholarship of $20,000, which was a weight off my shoulders when applying to schools knowing I could automatically take $5,000 a year off of my tuition, not including merit and grants. I have also been fortunate enough to have been given an amazing mentor, Dr. Tim Fox, who has given me the opportunity to job shadow him at the LincolnHealth in Damariscotta. I had an interest in majoring in nursing last year and through this scholarship I have been able to explore this career path through hands on experience from watching and asking questions about my interest in nursing.. Throughout the year I have been able to shadow Dr Fox, and other doctors and nurses in the ER and even the OR! Through this scholarship I have also been able to continue job shadowing for the last month of school for my senior project. This has been an amazing first year and I cannot begin to thank the Foundation enough for granting me this amazing scholarship." - Ellie Whittier, 2021 Award Recipient
